Diana Bell won an Artworks Award from the Clore Duffield Foundation for her Dreaming project. She worked with sick children from the Radcliffe Infirmary and the John Radcliffe hospitals in Oxford.
The children wrote poetry and text and made paintings about their experiences in hospital. The installation was exhibited in the hospital and at the Education Centre in Oxford.
‘The aim of the project was to give the children a voice and to empower them.’
Diana also cast pillows which had been slept on for a night. The pillows were then cast in plaster, retaining the imprint of the person’s head.
‘The impression on the pillow is like a dream suspended in time.’
